Saint Lawrence Preschool

(Jump to schedules and fees.)

We at St. Lawrence are committed to helping your child encounter Christ's love while preparing entry into kindergarten. It is our goal to help your child make an easy transition from a home-based environment to one which includes school. We provide a Christian atmosphere where your child can grow and develop through motivating, center-based learning.

Our Philosophy
Saint Lawrence Preschool provides developmentally appropriate activities where children can discover for themselves their ever-changing world. Group activities are planned so that children learn the give-and-take of everyday living, sharing, taking turns, and respecting the rights of others. They learn to work and play happily, allowing them to grow and develop emotionally, physically, socially, intellectually, and spiritually at their own pace. Each day is centered around God's command: "Love one another as I have loved you. (John 15:12)

The Power Of Play
Play is a young child's natural learning mechanism. Children at play are actively involved in creating themes, exploring and establishing environments, solving problems, and practicing interaction.

Weekly Themes
Developmentally appropriate activities are planned and implemented through the use of crafts, music, finger plays, cooking, math/science activities, and field trips.

Faith Formation
Children learn how God loves them and enjoys watching them grow. Learning Catholic traditions and Bible stories helps them to become aware of God's presence in their lives.

Dramatic Play
The housekeeping centers, puppet theater, and other make-believe centers promote the ability to pretend and provide the opportunity to practice social skills.

Sensory Table
The sensory table provides the opportunity for spontaneous exploration of math and science concepts while kneading, shaping, counting, pouring, digging, hunting, spraying, and observing differences.

Puzzle Power
Children develop an awareness of spatial relationships, following directions, and recognizing likenesses/differences. These are skills that aid children in early reading and writing.

Arts and Crafts
As children draw, paint, and sculpt, they think creatively, make decisions, follow directions, and solve problems. Using brushes, crayons, scissors, and clay, all develop fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination, preparing children for writing in later years.

Construction Tools
Manipulatives are open-ended materials stimulating young imagination, providing choices for discovery, invention, and problem-solving skills.

Computers
Exposure to technology in the early childhood classroom enables children to explore and investigate their world.

Reading Area
Creating a love of books is developed by looking through books that have been read to them, examining the print on the page, and "reading" to someone else.

Listening Center
Listening to oral language and music in a comfortable area helps to develop essential skills necessary for oral and written language.

Story Time
Children gain an appreciation for literature, other cultures, new words, sentence syntax, and associating words with illustrations while listening to stories.

Language Arts
Children discover alphabet, phonics, reading readiness skills, number/shapes, without pressure and learn to recognize the letters in their names, familiar items, and signs.

Show-And-Tell
Self esteem and confidence are fostered when sharing with the group.

Moving To Music
Creative movement helps children learn balance and coordination. Rhythm encourages the ability to predict what comes next by hearing repeated musical phrases.

Clean Up/Snack Time
Children work together to complete a task as well as converse, count, manners, and problem-solving.

Gym/Outdoor Play
Physical exercise strengthens muscles, encourages taking turns, being a team player, and exploring the world around them.

Laughter And Smiles
Developing a good sense of humor allows children to express ideas and feelings and promotes good mental health.
