Ministries

Grief Ministry
St. Lawrence faith community offers support, prayers, and comfort to parishioners who are suffering through the death of a loved one. Currently, this takes two forms. The Arimathea Ministry is a card ministry. Cards are sent during the first weeks immediately following the loss, at the holidays, and on the first anniversary of the death. No One Cries Alone is a seven-week series dealing with suffering in the life of a Christian. It is offered once a year and deals with losses through death, illness, or divorce. Contact the Pastoral Associate at 742-2107 ext. 236 for more details. (Return to the top)

Funeral Dinners
St. Lawrence Parish offers funeral dinners for families of deceased parishioners. The funeral dinners are typically held on an as-needed basis in the Social Hall. A group of parishioners volunteer their time and cooking skills for these dinners. Volunteers are needed to cook, serve, and make desserts for these dinners. Those interested in helping with this ministry should contact the Parish Office. (Return to the top)

Elizabeth Ministry
Elizabeth Ministry is an outreach to women in special times of motherhood. It is based on Jesus' vision of the radical goodness, beauty, and truth of human life. The purpose of this ministry is to affirm, support, encourage, and assist women in response to their needs during childbearing years. Opportunities for involvement include hospital and home visits, companioning, card ministry, prayer chain, pro-life activities, and meal preparation. For more information, please contact the Pastoral Associate at 742-2107 ext. 236. (Return to the top)

Matrix Lifeline Pregnancy Center
The Matrix Lifeline is a crisis pregnancy center located on the corner of Maple and 19th Streets. St. Lawrence donates the use of the building and utilities to Matrix. The Center provides counseling, financial assistance, educational programs, and referrals for expectant mothers. Many of the organizations at St. Lawrence volunteer time, materials, and funds to help Matrix prevent abortions by providing young women with support and assistance in times of crisis pregnancies. Contact Matrix at 742-1533 or visit their web site for volunteer opportunities and needs. (Return to the top)

Prayer Chains
There are times when we all need someone to pray for us or our families and friends. There are two prayer chains. One is our parish's Prayer and Praise Prayer Chain for intercessory prayer and to pray for vocations. Requests for prayer can be made by contacting the Parish Representative. The other is a city-wide prayer chain called The Prayer Network. The Network is a telephone-tree of volunteers who pray for the intentions of those who ask their intercession. If you have a special prayer request, please contact the Prayer Network representative. (Return to the top)

Parish Nurse
St. Lawrence has a Parish Nurse Program that is a sub-ministry of Friends and Neighbors. The Parish Nurse Program does blood pressure screenings on Sunday mornings every other month, visits nursing home residents and homebound parishioners, offers health awareness programs to the parish, and sponsors a yearly health fair for all parishioners and neighbors. For more information, please contact the Parish Nurse Office at 742-2107 ext. 229. (Return to the top)

Childcare
Childcare is provided during the RCIA sessions on Wednesday evenings during the school year. Interested adults donate their time for two hours to care for and supervise the children. If you are interested in helping, contact the RCIA Coordinators. (Return to the top)

Friends and Neighbors
This ministry is designed to reach out to those in need by utilizing the gifts and talents of our parishioners. Various sub-ministries have been formed to assist with particular needs (clothing, transportation, yard work, etc.) Other ministries will be developed when a need arises. This group also publishes a quarterly parish newsletter called The Grill. Those who have needs, as well as those who wish to share their God-given talents to address the needs of others, should call the Parish Office. (Return to the top)
